It has been a year since the war between Russia and Ukraine commenced and yet there are no signs of letting go from either side. This unequal war between a Goliath and David is being silently watched by the world with a shrug and “no skin of our noses.”
Recently the President of the US (POTUS) made a ‘secret’ visit and met President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. After the routine clucking of tongue in sympathy and laying a wreath at the Wall of Remembrance, the POTUS announced an additional US$50 billion (over and above the already given US$50 billion) in the form of shells for howitzers, anti-tank missiles, air surveillance radars and other aids but no new advanced weaponry.
The amount could have been donated for the humanitarian needs rather than further needling the Ukrainians. The US is prepared to stick with Ukraine, “as long as it takes” to repel the Russian forces which is quite unlikely soon. A cruel joke is being played on Ukraine which needs the help from the US and other countries, including India, to stop the war and help it get back on its feet.
It appears that several countries are secretly thankful for the war as they are either selling their arm and ammunitions to Ukraine or manufacturing and shoring for themselves, buying Russian oil and commodities from Ukraine at cheap prices etc. These are awful acts by other countries and reminds of the fable wherein a monkey takes advantage of two cats who are fighting for equal share of food.
