The government has decided to scrap all vehicles which are 15 years old belonging to different departments. This is a welcome move to reduce pollution caused by old vehicles. The government has around 800 such vehicles which are over 15 years old.
The government has also proposed to take over private vehicles for public transport by discarding old KTC buses. The move to take over existing private bus services will save government the cost to invest in new buses and also help existing drivers and conductors of private buses to get a fair return.
Once this is done, the government must move to the private sector and ensure citizens discard their old vehicles that include petrol & diesel-based ones.
Thus as per statistics around 2 lakh vehicles will be off the road. The said move is towards reducing pollution caused by vehicles run on fuel and replacing them with electric vehicles. Today, the government is also providing subsidy on electric vehicles.
