ZIDANE D'SOUZA, Siolim
It is becoming a routine feature for accidents to occur at these black spots in Siolim on MDR10, at Vaddy Junction near St. Anthony's Church compound and Bamon Vaddo Junction near the Lobo's house compound. Most of the accidents happen late at night when tourists are returning from their cocktail parties and dances. They lose control of their vehicles and crash into compound walls or other vehicles and, if you are unlucky, God save you. The authorities from the Road Safety Committees should obtain information from the local police stations about such accidents, whether minor or major, compromised or involving insurance claims, so that the accident-prone sites are analysed and a proper plan is prepared to make the roads safer. Moreover, drink-driving checks should be carried out strictly. Or, better still, renting cars to tourists leaving party venues late at night should be banned, and they should be heavily fined if caught in an accident. Otherwise, Goa is already the number one tourist accident state. Great achievements by the double-engine Govt. Despite having the best infrastructure, we have rash and negligent drivers on the roads causing damage and killing people. Hope the North District Safety Committee will visit Siolim for first-hand information.
