As the Goa Assembly elections draw near, voters must reflect on the present government's record. The BJP government has filed numerous cases against Niz Goenkars who peacefully opposed double tracking and other projects they believe threaten Goa's environment, villages, and natural heritage. Instead of engaging with citizens' concerns, the government has appeared to favour powerful business interests. Although controversial projects have slowed during the election period, many fear this is only a temporary pause before they resume after the polls. When citizens protested against hate speech directed at revered religious saints and demanded justice, FIRs were reportedly registered against the protesters themselves. Despite repeated appeals, the government, police, and railway authorities have not withdrawn these cases, forcing many Goans to spend valuable time and money defending themselves. With concerns about rising lawlessness and criminal activity, Goans deserve answers. Will the government withdraw what many consider false cases against those who stood up for Goa? Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will your government seek Goans' votes while these cases remain unresolved? Goa deserves a government that listens, protects its people, and preserves its unique identity.
