Newer parties are being formed as the political climate is vitiated in the state stirring up political passions, to take on the might of the current ruling dispensation. Goa Congress Party has entered the fray supposedly trying to unseat the BJP from the position of power. The votes are only going to get split denying any one party from getting a majority. This thereby leads winning candidates to defect, forming unpopular governments. Schedule 10 of the constitution needs to be fortified with additional amendments to deter defections. Most of the elected representatives manoeuvre to fulfill their greedy aspirations once elected. Recalling of elected representatives should be one way of dealing with the menace of repeated defections. Performance based criteria should be made the normal in all future elections whether parliamentary or assembly based.
