The current ongoing deficit in rainfall which can be directly attributed to factors such as rampant deforestation and other prevailing global climatic conditions has caused and will continue to cause serious water crisis in years to come. The ground water table depletion is another cause of serious concern which the state government must urgently mitigate by way of limiting the total number of bore wells that can be allowed and/or close down all the present bore wells which are in active operations. All swimming pools which lack the facility to reuse the same water after effectively treating it should be closed down permanently. The government of the day should seriously look into alternative source of water. One practical possibility is to install several desalination plants along the coast line of Goa. The technology do exists in the Middle Eastern countries. The price of water per cubic metre will definitely increase by adopting modern desalination plant technology, but we are left with no other tangible options. Lastly, multi-dwelling residential houses and apartments must compulsorily have the provision for rain water harvesting underground storage tanks facilities.
