The Delhi government is providing great service to its citizens by taking advantage of the progress made in information technology.
The citizens there have to call on telephone number 1076 to avail documents like ration card, driving license, voting card, passport, water and electricity connections, etc. A government officer is on call to help people with documentation and subsequently provides the service. Other states should adopt this doorstep service. Only public-oriented leaders will take such steps. But look at the situation in other States, including Goa. Politicians come knocking only at the time of elections and make big promises. Goa also has online services, but 80 percent do not have computers and scanners.
Our village panchayats should emulate this doorstep service policy and serve the villagers. Many times villagers have to go to village panchayats to collect their documents and are made to wait. People need a revolutionary change in service delivery and governance.
