Tha Corlim Village Panchayat has increased transfer tax for just transferring a flat from the builder's name to the owner's name to an exorbitant Rs 10,000 recently from the existing Rs 5,000. The panchayat undertakes drain cleaning once in a year and some petty works like trimming of wild grasss and garbage collection that is not properly organised. There are flaws in the garbage collection which need to be addressed quickly as we see garbage strewn along Corlim roads. I see daily people from neighbouring vilages throwing garbage from their motorcycles near the Manganal factory upto the highway causing great inconvenience and hardships for passersby due to foul, filthy smell emanating from the garbage dump near roads. I request the Panchayat minister to take cognisance of the Corlim VP increasing the transfer tax to Rs 10,000 which may be beyond the reach of poor and middle income group who put in their savings to purchase flats to the tune of Rs 50 to 70 lakh. Hope better sense prevails and panchayat reduces the transfer tax which is high compared to other villages of Goa.
