In a development which is expected to raise the heckle for the organizers, it is learnt that the Sanquelim Municipal Council revoked the permission to hold a public rally on the issue of diversion of Mhadei water on its grounds on Opinion Poll Day, January 16. It is learnt that permission was given but revoked as an afterthought on account of possibility of traffic congestion and commotion as it was the weekly Sankhali Bazar Day.
However, it is learnt that the Sankhali Municipal Council has no problem in issuing permission for the Opinion Poll celebrations meeting on the theme Save Mhadei, Save Goa. It comes as a surprise that a meeting on such an important issue which concerns the availability of water for Goa, has been stopped on flimsy grounds of traffic congestion and commotion that will presumably take place due to the weekly market. Obviously there is more to it than meets the eye. Is a weekly market more important than Goa’s water concerns?
