The stretch of NH66 in Canacona is dangerous for commuters which has been ignored by the authorities. About a metre on either side is ludicrously being extended as a stop gap meaningless exercise. Numerous accidents have occurred and will continue with absolute certaintity to do so, as it is not only dangerously narrow but winding like a snake. Overtaking on this stretch is not possible, with slow moving trucks creating bottle necks for traffic.
The government is hell bent on stirring hornest nest and courting controversies over Benaulim stretch and from Navelim to Cuncolim. The land for diversion for Cuncolim bypass is still not acquired nor alternative route finalised. The priority and urgent necessity is to widen the Canacona stretch though geographically terrain is a daunting challenge but it is free from human settlements by and large. This stretch for strange reasons remains untouched thus far.
