Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has begun de-weeding and removing water hyacinth at the Maimollem lake in Vasco and the work is reportedly going on in full swing. It is understood that the tourism department would like to develop the lake into a tourist attraction. It is pertinent to note that earlier houses along the lake used to discharge sewage directly into the water body. The water also needed to be tested for Coliform bacteria. The lake has a huge potential of being a place of tourist attraction. It must be said that Vasco city does not have much to offer to the tourists by way of entertainment except for the Baina beach. The Maimollem lake could be developed for leisure and water sports on the lines of Mayem lake. The huge open space across the road could also be developed into an entertainment zone and for leisure. Various water sports could be started at the Maimollem lake, like pedal boating, canoeing and kayaking. This could also provide self-employment for the youth of Vasco.
