Sonam Wangchuk has begun a hunger strike demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Rarely does a story perturb the youth as much as the NEET paper leak did. For millions of people, competitive exams are a way to social mobility and a better life. 21 students have committed suicide due to a failed education system. With zero accountability from the BJP government, the arrogance of the majoritarian regime is appalling. A Goan boy has taken his life too, but still no accountability from the Goa government either. It appears the cost of human lives is cheap in a country which once promised “Acche din”. While the children of BJP ministers, including Dharmendra Pradhan study abroad, Indian youth are losing their lives and precious years to an unfair system. They couldn’t care less about NEET paper leaks, or CBSE scams, or the distortion of history by NCERT, or humans being cramped in trains and buses like cockroaches. It appears religious fearmongering cannot always blind the masses. The blame is fairly and squarely on Modi, who is yet to hold a press conference on the issue.
