Politicians must work for benefit of the people

This is with reference to the report, "Politicians have not come from heaven  - The Goan Everyday January 14, 2023." What a thought provoking statement from a former chief minister, Digambar Kamat. Yes, how true, politicians have not come from heaven, they are mortal human beings just like any other. Poor mortals that we are, we tend to get swayed by the lure of wealth and power. And so, we are willing to sacrifice ethics & morality and commit acts such as, defecting to another party after getting elected from a certain party. Another very important statement was, without politicians nothing can be done. Yes, politics and politicians are part of governance. But, we must remember that in a democracy, it is a 'government of the people, for the people & by the people'. Politics by itself is not dirty, it is the people who make politics dirty. The Social welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai rightly states, unless people join politics it would be difficult to eliminate the bad things in society and that it is the responsibility of the people to join politics and strengthen the laws. We must appreciate this fact.

We the people of this great country, must overcome our shortcomings and work for the betterment of each other.
