The report in The Goan (dated Sept 25) that the State government has thrown open banks of seven major rivers to set up private fishing jetties makes interesting reading.
Like the diluting of the meaning of ‘Offshore Casino’, the proposed private fishing jetties will also include angling and some other activities.
Is this a ploy by the government to bring in the marinas through the back door as there has been severe opposition to the proposed marina?
If this is the case, marina proposers will now be able to ‘own’ a private berthing slot for peanuts.
The government should understand what Goans want. The Benaulim prawn hatchery saga has seen local fishermen proposing a use for the land, but the government is not bothered about the same.
Let better sense prevail.
