It was indeed a memorable first of its kind Goa-centric senior citizen event held on August 21 at the Peddem Indoor Stadium, Mapusa, to coincide with World Senior Citizens Day The event was held under the auspices of Sevarat Health Care and Nursing with a tagline "Time of your life" to create a world record by a choreographed dance sequence of Goan folk songs meticulously arranged under the leadership of Rohini Gonsalves, the founder-member of the Senior Care organisation.
Close on its heels a day prior on August 20, World Goa Day was celebrated by the Goan diaspora across continents. With this amazing event Goa has become the brand ambassador by creating a world record for the largest gathering of senior citizens participating and performing the Tora dance on live music for six minutes. A record number of 436 senior citizen across the state participated in the epoch making extravaganza, with the menfolk wearing Kurta-Pyjama and the womenfolk sporting the traditional ‘Kunbi saree. The line up of artists performing the choreographed dance was a feast to the eyes which culminated in a record breaking event. Regrettably the event was not given much publicity by the print and electronic media except for a short video clip posted on the social media network.
