Apropos to ‘Gusty winds, rainfall cause huge loss to electricity dept’ and ‘Intense heat makes Delhi sweat’ on The Goan Everyday, April 30, 2022, it makes me say that environment has been one of the casualties during the past few years in Goa and is one of the issues that need to be tackled on a war footing. But yet, we have authorities directing their energies, time, effort, money, etc., towards non-issues like the restoration of damaged temples during Portuguese rule. Colonial rule is not responsible for the environmental damage we are witnessing in the country. The gusty winds and rains on Thursday night are yet another signal from nature for us to wake up and take remedial action. Goa, like other cities in the country, has been facing erratic weather conditions. Another report in your newspaper says intense heat makes Delhi sweat, with temperatures touching 46 degrees. We need to understand that global warming is for real and if we don’t heed warning signals from nature, we are doomed. We need to rise above all religious, language issues, the Goencho Saib issue and focus on life itself.
