Traffic chaos at Navelim cross junction

The chaos at Navelim cross junction due to the increasing population, both floating and permanent, is a nerve-wracking driving experience. The sheer number of vehicles on this route is staggering. There is an urgent need for traffic police and authorities to tackle this issue.

The junction sees traffic converging from at least eight crossroads intersecting NH 66. It hosts schools, banks, churches, the panchayat, and a road leading to the interstate railway station, along with hawkers/vendors. During school hours and peak church services, it becomes chaotic. A flyover from Margao towards Chinchinim and beyond to Betul is necessary to ease traffic jams, reduce carbon emissions, and clean the air.
Currently, lacking signal lights, the junction is managed by a lone police officer, leading to continuous traffic snarls and noisy horns disturbing churchgoers and students needing quiet for exams. While a rail flyover has resolved train-related jams, extending it to Navelim’s main crossroads could bypass several problematic intersections.
