The arrest of a 24-year old youth from Assam at Mandopa in Navelim who was wanted for the rape of a 12-year old has again brought to the fore the moot question of whether those staying in the state have been subjected to tenant verification by the police, employers and the landlords. It must be said that while much stress is laid on tenant verification by the landlords, verification of the employees is also very vital. Several people from other states seek employment in Goa. All these migrants should mandatorily undergo verification conducted by the employers. The police need to check the antecedents of all those who seek temporary employment in Goa with their counterparts in other states. This will help bring down the crime graph in our state.
