At last, election fever has ended and the people of Goa can sleep well without the disturbance of phone calls, vehicles fitted with loudspeakers, door-to-door visits by candidates and party-workers coming to offer you money to buy your vote. Now, on May 10 we will come to know if Goa has really voted for change. It was nice to see that for the first time in Goa, the Chief Electoral Officer came up with new ideas and made polling booths pink and eco-friendly green (made by our own local traditional artisans using natural materials). Campaigning was done perfectly by explaining to the people that voting is your responsibility, your right and your choice and that everyone must come out and vote. Besides this, there were Konkani songs, competitions, etc. Hand sanitizer and face mask were also kept in the polling booths. In response, the people of Goa turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. Here’s hoping we get a good, corruption-free government in the state of Goa that will work for the people.
