Govt must take steps to curb hike in price of milk

Considering the constant rise in the prices of raw material, it is learnt that Goa Dairy is now planning to hike the prices of its milk and cattle feed shortly. It may be recalled that Goa Dairy hiked its milk price by Rs 2-4 in January 2020. Goa Dairy had earlier hiked the price of all its varieties of milk in September 2016 and again in February in 2017. It is pertinent to note that Goa Dairy is a cooperative union of around 137 village-level milk collection societies. The escalating costs of raw materials for producing cattle feed has probably led to the increase in the price of milk in the market.  It must be said that milk happens to be an important part of the diet of the citizens, especially children and senior citizens as it provides calcium for the growth of the bones. The frequent rise in price of milk could have an adverse impact on the poor families. The government needs to take necessary steps to prevent further hike in the price of milk.
