The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has finally rectified its gross highhandedness by now designating its 30 elected as 'Councillors' and not 'Corporators'. However, why did it take the CCP 24 long years to get their act together? In the CCP Act 2002, there is nowhere a mention of the word ‘Corporator’ as it refers to the elected representatives as ‘Councillors’. Therefore, it was illegal for the CCP to have been using the word ‘Corporator’. Thankfully, a senior officer at the Secretariat when informed about this illegality swung into action to end this blatant impropriety at the CCP. The rule of law must be upheld at all times and never breached, especially by those in power and authority.
