Bulldozer justice, the new norm in India, razing to the ground judicial fiats and principles of natural justice is nothing but ethnic cleansing, plain and simple. The Punjab and Haryana High Court, based on newspaper reports took suo moto cognizance of the selective demolition in Nuh targeting the minority community and halted the patently illegal action by the Haryana government. The division bench of the HC observed that apparently without any demolition orders or eviction notices, the communal clashes were being used as a ruse to bring down buildings without following due process of law; the court went so far as to ask whether 'ethnic cleansing' is being conducted. The judges were of the considered opinion that the Constitution must be respected and that nothing should be done without following legal procedures. In a scathing rebuke, the High Court quoted Lord Acton's , " Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely ." This blistering chastisement by the judiciary makes it clear that it is absolutely fed up with the evil shenanigans of the sarkar and is willing to counter the executive head on.
