Check tourists driving ‘rent-a-car’ vehicles

A 12-year-old school boy from Parra was reportedly injured when he was hit by a speeding car driven by a tourist on the famous Parra madani road on Sunday. According to the Mapusa police the driver of the rent-a-car Thar jeep knocked down the schoolboy who was riding a bicycle and later went off the road and toppled on its side.

The police stated that the tourist who was proceeding from Anjuna to Parra drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. It is observed that of late several road accidents reported in the state involved rent-a-car vehicles driven by tourists. This is probably so because the tourists could be driving the hired vehicle in an intoxicated state. The tourists drive the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner probably as they are aware that they do not lose anything if the car meets with an accident as the owner can claim insurance for the damage to the vehicle.

The traffic cops need to keep a strict vigil on tourists driving hired cars.
