It is learnt that the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided not to give any extension to the fair put up on the occasion of the Margao church feast and that all the stalls have to be removed by Thursday. This is a step in the right direction as stalls that are put up cause a lot of inconvenience to the general public as they remain for days after the feast is over. Stalls that are put up during the Vasco Saptah along the Swatantra Path are invariably given extension for some days by the civic body which causes great inconvenience to the general public and also to the residents living in houses along the path as it blocks the main road. This could be the case at other places like Panaji city, Old Goa, etc. where a fair comes up during the church feast or any other occasions. If the civic body or the panchayat is really concerned about stall owners fees and rents can be reduced. Citizens should not be subjected to inconvenience due to traffic congestion and reduction in parking space.
