Mopa airport: A matter of pride for all Goans

The newly opened Mopa airport in Goa  is something which every Goan should be proud of, it being the country's first airport  terminal to obtain green certification under the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) rating, besides many firsts to its credit. This finally brings to an end the highly sensitive storm in the tea cup,  kept simmering by a group of disgruntled activists on frivolous issues for over a decade. The airport is a wonderful example of several environmental  protective features such as  reduced carbon footprint, conservation of energy with installed 5 MW solar power generation, efficient disposal and recycling of  waste, enhancement of greenery with the planting of over 5 lakh tree saplings, organic waste compostor, efficient  disposal of construction waste,  etc. The airport  is also expected to  generate around 4,000 jobs for the locals, besides handling over 4 million passengers a year that will be a big  boost for Goa tourism and taxi operators,  and also provisions for night landings and a cargo terminal, all  which were badly lacking at the Dabolim airport. What else are we Goans seeking?
