Confusion over Sunburn dates

Of late there has been a hue and cry over the hosting of Sunburn festival at Vagator. The confusion is over only December 31 where Anjuna locals and the Siolim MLA has objected as this will affect the residents, hotels, restaurants and other businessmen.

While the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte is on record saying that the festival will not be permitted on December 31, the organizers are singing a different tune and have claimed the there is no intimation from the government regarding the same. On the flip side tickets for the festival for December 31 are on sale online.

Local residents claim that Sunburn festival does not help the local economy in any way. In fact, there is chaos, traffic bottlenecks, accidents, drunk driving with hordes of tourists driving in at the venue.

It is time the government gives a serious thought to this and comes out with a solution. In fact it would be prudent if the government does not permit the festival on December 31.
