We are seeing really horrific images of unprecedented flooding in many parts of India; recently in some parts of Bengaluru, mainly due to the corruption and massive/unplanned real estate development by greedy builders, who are openly flouting environmental norms. My question to Goans is are we not heading in the same direction? The Goa government preaches many things i.e. plant trees, take care of agriculture/fields, protect the environment, etc but in reality these same ruling politicians are allowing and many times facilitating, the cutting down of thousands of trees, destroying forests/wildlife sanctuaries, cutting hills, filling low lying areas/ water bodies, etc mainly with the objective to maximise their personal wealth and political growth; in collusion with real estate sharks & specific real estate lobbies from Goa but mainly from outside Goa! Most of the latter is for destructive development and in some cases the front appears like a good project like IIT now planned for Sanguem but is IIT the real intention? This destruction of Goa by selfish/corrupt ruling politicians must be challenged, if we have any intention to save what's left of Goa for posterity !
