Close on the heels of the earlier declaration by the Wold Health Organisation (WHO) that the emergency period of of the Covid-19 pandemic had ended, after taking its toll of millions of lives worldwide, comes another warning from the Director, cautioning the world to get ready for the next pandemic, perceived to be even deadlier than the earlier Covid -19 virus because of the probable emergence of another lethal pathogen.
It is a well established fact that the WHO was late in declaring the emergency during the Covid -19 pandemic, even after the alleged emergence and spread of the virus from the Chinese lab / market, killing millions in China. All this raises questions about the constructive role of the WHO in saving human lives and the need for such a worldwide organisation of the United Nations. Incidentally, this comes in the wake of the recent questioning at the recent G-7 meeting in Hiroshima by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of the real need of the United Nations which has failed miserably to ease nationwide conflicts and tensions and wars.
