Apropos to Dr Oscar Rebello’s light hearted piece “Wake up and smell the coffee, guys” (The Goan Everyday March 15, 2022). What should Goa do post the Goa Assembly Elections 2022 results? Should Goa cry or laugh?Should Goa rejoice at the paper thin margin of saffron victory? Or, should Goa cry at the sad demise of the laissez-faire grand old party that failed to read the writing on the wall and went into the crucial elections thinking its victory was imminent?
Should Goa celebrate the arrival of the political upstart Revolutionary Goans that promised to bulldoze migrants and their shanties? Should Goa smile at two Aam Aadmi Party’s legislators who are given an opportunity to test the much talked about Delhi Model and its compatibility on Goa’s psyche? Cry my beloved, Goa. The mistakes are made. The history is repeating itself. The hoity toity Goan elite can hide behind the sublime prose and put on the I-told-you-so airs. But it is the poor Goan who will pay the price and bear the brunt till 2026-27. God save our beloved Goa.
