Goa's tourism industry is facing significant challenges, particularly with the holiday season around the corner. The state's water crisis, power interruptions, road conditions, garbage problem, and women's safety issues are major concerns that need to be addressed urgently. Last year's lower-than-expected tourist footfall can be attributed to extreme temperatures due to global warming. These challenges are interconnected and can be traced back to mega projects that have been cleared, often through corrupt means, allowing deforestation and hill cutting. This not only harms the environment but also puts pressure on Goa's infrastructure and resources. The influx of new residents and commercial activities further exacerbates these issues. To revive tourism, Goa needs to focus on sustainable development and eco-friendly practices. Lonely Planet highlights Goa's unique blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures, stunning beaches, and rich history, making it an ideal destination for travellers. However with the real estate mafias destroying such offerings, Goa will have to suffer with only liquor & casino promotions.
