The Goa Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira recently stated that the Goa government is serious about beach erosions and roping in Dutch experts on the same. However, what is seen is that the government is not actually serious in the “sincere” sense. Why has the beach management plan not being implemented as yet by the Goa government ? Shacks as per Govt police were supposed to be given for benefit of unemployed youth but what is seen is that, shacks are mostly given to big hoteliers/big businesses quite few of whom are blatantly destroying the beach. It was widely reported last year that Goa accounts for 50 per cent of India’s CRZ violations; and the worst part is the people in charge of protecting the coast, ie. the GCZMA are still in charge to date and the Goa Govt has not investigated them for punishment. On November 22 at Colva, the flying squad was called in by the Colva Civic and Consumer forum to investigate destruction of sand dune and it was delayed as usual. We cannot trust our deceitful ministers to protect our coasts.
