Goa’s Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte reportedly said that the government was contemplating organising an electronic dance music (EDM) festival in Goa, and that the government may not permit Sunburn in December if its dates clash with the state’s festival.
Instead of organizing the proposed EDM festival it would be in the fitness of things for the government to organize a ‘Beat Show’ wherein local bands are given an opportunity to play music for the crowd.
It is pertinent to note that in the years gone by the ‘Simla Beat Contest’ which was held on the sands of Calangute beach was a huge success.
In the past people would gather in hundreds to witness the beat shows held at the various beaches in the State. The local bands have had a lean period in the past two years due to the pandemic as no weddings and dances were held.
It seems necessary to revive the music scene in the state. If the government proposes to have a week-long music festival then having electronic dance music on all days will become a monotonous affair.
