We can see in Goa so many villages being flooded mainly due to the mindless/destructive development by extremely corrupt Panchayat members, bureaucrats, TCP and even specific ministers. Now the same threat is facing Colva, with the low lying lake open area opposite the Church and other low lying areas being targeted for concretization by corrupt/vested interests.
I am sure residents of Colva can see for themselves today (in this current monsoon season) how these low lying areas today are preventing flooding at Colva, by taking in the excess rain waters; which will also help increase water tables in the village.
Even eminent environmentalists and scientists have warned against filling up these areas, however some “vultures” in the form of specific ex-panchas, specific current panchas in alliance with specific real estate developers are still targeting these areas. And these individuals are working over-time with the concerned minister to pursue their destructive plans.
I request all the residents to please take the time to use the various factual and scientific views/data available to make an informed decision to thwart the Eco terrorists from having their way.
