Impatient and non-disciplined motorists throng the railway gate when a train is about to pass, very eager to cross the track when the gates open.
This has been a regular scene at the Old Goa-Gaundalim railway crossing (for that matter at every railway crossing in Goa as well as India).
The lane-discipline is never obeyed. Normally, cars queue up on the left side of the road while the right side is kept vacant for the oncoming vehicles. But, it is always the two-wheeler riders who rush from every side and block the full road in their bid to be the first to cross once the gates open.
To tackle this situation, temporary lane dividers were fixed. But, motorists still jam both the sides of the road.
There was a situation where an ambulance was caught up in this mess. The ambulance had to wait till the two-wheeler rush had cleared and then managed to travel ahead.
People have to learn to act responsibly and follow rules of the road. The traffic rules are not just to answer the test for getting a license but have to be practiced on road as well.
Common sense should prevail while driving or riding on the road.
