I request all animal welfare NGOs to be proactive in sterilising stray dogs in our area. There are many stray dogs roaming around for years. Some even rest on balconies. These dogs are not easy to catch. I have called some NGOs to take them for sterilisation, but no one bothers to come. Most of these dogs are female, so the number of stray dogs will only increase in the coming days.
I urge the Minister for Animal Husbandry to direct all NGOs to respond to public calls and take stray dogs for sterilisation without delay. Sometimes, people are even ready to pay the NGO staff willingly. The government should ensure that all NGOs are active in the state and should check their work reports every year.
The Veterinary Department should also have a team to pick up stray dogs for sterilisation when the public calls, working along with NGOs. This is a humble suggestion in the public interest. Some people are so cruel that they poison stray dogs, and three to four dogs have already died this way.
I have even emailed the Honourable Chief Minister and the Animal Husbandry Department about this, and an NGO was directed to act, but the system is not working properly. What are the NGOs doing if they cannot even sterilise these dogs? In this matter, Dr Heak of an international NGO was very dedicated to animal care in Goa. He deserved a national award for helping to reduce the number of stray dogs and cats in the state. NGOs should be proactive in caring for animals.
