Towards election-related work, government staff from several departments, institutions, university and colleges are selected by the State electoral office. The nominees are sent for training for several days and during those days work in public-oriented departments such as revenue, road and transport, Collector’s office, panchayat, educational institutions, to name a few of the tens of entities; go hay-wire, come to a grinding halt or are delayed. When a citizen or a colleague goes to meet or call a concerned person in some department, the reason given would be that he/she is on election duty. This could be factual or otherwise and no one is the wiser! To avoid this situation and for transparency, the department heads could notify on the intranet site the officers who would be on election duty, dates and time of their training and availability in the office. The same information could be displayed on the notice boards for the citizens who might visit the above places for some work. Similar could be the case in colleges and university for the benefit of the students when the faculty is deputed for poll duties.
