Plastic waste burning at Colva

A lot of plastic waste is being burnt by some residents, businesses and government officials without a regard for the environment or the health of people living in the area.

However, it is difficult to understand why such waste is being burned in the open despite a NGT order banning it and the village panchayat organising a weekly garbage collection drive.

Inhalation of smoke arising out the burning of plastic in the open leads to serious effects on the health.  

The best way to deal with this to first completely stop the activity by enforcement of law. The panchayat can increase monitoring in its jurisdiction to prevent any future burnings. Lastly, the panchayat should also conduct a massive public awareness campaign to educate the residents over the ill effects of burning the plastic.
