Power wastage

Benaulim of late has been facing frequent power outages due to increased electricity demand, undersized transformers and lack of current overload safeguards, but many streetlights are seen shining bright during the daytime. The light poles themselves are used by internet service providers to mount their cables illegally.

It is more than high time we had sensors for outdoor fixtures which switch off the LEDs based on ambient light conditions. We talk of smart power metres, etc., but let us first get the basics right. Goa cannot afford such power wastage.

Mapusa in decline

It is shocking to see Mapusa turning into a slum-like city. The municipal office and police seem negligent in controlling the growing migrant population, which is contributing to rising crime. Many shops have been broken into and robbed.An increasing number of migrants openly consume tobacco and alcohol, making public spaces dirty and unsafe.
