It is shocking to see Mapusa turning into a slum-like city. The municipal office and police seem negligent in controlling the growing migrant population, which is contributing to rising crime. Many shops have been broken into and robbed.
An increasing number of migrants openly consume tobacco and alcohol, making public spaces dirty and unsafe. They are settling anywhere”near highways, bus terminals, and even on government and private property”land that Goans cannot afford to buy or build on. Groups often move in different directions to beg for money in markets, crowded areas, and at traffic signals.
The citizens of Mapusa must raise their voices and urge the authorities to take strict action against this menace before the situation worsens.
