Uniform fare structure needed for all taxis

The Goa government should set uniform taxi fares for all taxis in the state, including those operating on aggregator platforms. Even auto and taxi drivers have become infamous for not following the meter and overcharging. It has become common among auto, pilot and taxi drivers to loot someone who is not acquainted with the city.  There is no universal fare for taxis in Goa.  The ‘One City, One Fare’ policy should be a step towards making taxi services in goa more transparent, fair, and convenient for passengers.  Lot of passengers and tourists complain that auto rickshaw & taxi drivers refuse to carry passengers due to illegal fares. This is also a violation of the MV Act. Section 74(2)(xii) of the act says that except in circumstances of exceptional nature, the owner/driver shall not refuse to carry passengers.  The people in the tourism sector take advantage of tourists by levying exorbitant charges from transport to hotels. The comprehensive review of tourism infrastructure is required and adequate interventions to augment the same are needed as the tourism industry is an integral part of brand Goa.
