National Highway authorities are paranoid in decorating NH66 with unscientific rumblers to avoid traffic accidents. Three unrecorded accidents and one fatal one at Dandeavado site. The victim is at a loss to take up cudgels for negligence and whom to sue for deadly rumbler strips that is the cause. The nuisance of sound pollution is 24x7 due to unbearable vibrations that disturb sleep of senior citizens. The sound does not dissipate in heavily crowded residential areas and effect is felt around 150 metres radius and more so at nights.
There are no measures to check speed, overtaking, etc. Drivers use pedestrian footpath to circumvent rumblers, leaving no place at all. The violation of zebra crossing violations is a serious offence. Besides all the 3 internal connecting roads have hump type speed breakers. The rumblers in the vicinity are too many on a stretch of 2km that are causing injuries, damage to vehicles.
One wonders at absence of such measures at St Sebastian Chapel, Navelim and Cuncolim which are much more risky and more crowded due to institutions, Church, municipality and market complex. At Navelim the underpass and signals are non-functional. Frequent requests to solve the issue using signals even by panchayat are deliberately ignored only to harass senior citizens. The authorities refuse to justify exclusive, selective preference for rumblers at the site in comparison with other more dangerous junctions.
