The State government has proposed to make it mandatory that all new tourist vehicles ‘Rent a Cab and Rent a Bike’ shall be electric vehicles (EV) from January 2024. It will also be mandatory for all government departments to purchase electric light motor vehicles from January 2024. The government is leading the promotion and adoption of electric mobility, paving the way for a sustainable and decarbonized transport sector.
As per Goa’s EV policy all two wheelers involved in commercial activity operating in Goa shall switch to complete electric by 31st December, 2025. For beyond 31st December 2030, all the two wheelers sold in the state of Goa to be 100% electric. It is learnt that there are a total of 80 authorized electric car charging stations in Goa for more than 30 plus car brands. This is grossly inadequate.
Employers need to install workplace charging points and typically offer free access throughout the day. Public charging points need to be at supermarkets or car parks and can be free to use for the duration of the wait. It is learnt that while 30 per cent subsidy will be for two-wheelers, it will be 40% for three-wheelers and for four-wheelers it will be up to Rs 3 lakhs. EV-charging infrastructure at every 25 kilometer location along highways will be very helpful for charging the e- vehicles.
