Zero tolerance towards intimidation of doctors

An on-duty doctor at Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim was allegedly manhandled and abused by two women over an issue pertaining to the treatment of their relative, prompting a police case. It must be said that doctors at the premiere medical institute in the state are doing their best to give adequate medical service to the general public. They are working under trying circumstances given the sheer number of patients who visit the hospital every day. In the past there was a nationwide protest against assault on doctors in West Bengal. It may be recalled that around two years ago a senior doctor at Porvorim was assaulted. It is pertinent to note that many-a-times patients in critical stage or in final stage of the sickness are brought to the government hospitals and expect the doctors to perform miracles. Doctors do not possess super powers. They always do their best to save the patient. There should be zero tolerance shown towards intimidation of doctors, be it by physical or verbal assault. Doctors need to be given all necessary protection from violent public reaction so that such incidents do not occur in future.
