The BJP Goa unit's protest near the Congress House in Panaji, led by State president Damu Naik, was meant to accuse the Congress of creating unrest. However, what drew greater attention was the repeated slogan, "Rahul Gandhi bhadwaa hai," shouted by BJP leaders and workers. Such abusive language demeans public discourse and reflects poorly on those using it rather than on its target. Rahul Gandhi has consistently expressed support for protesting students and questioned the Centre's response to their concerns, including the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and demands for accountability. In a democracy, supporting peaceful protests and asking difficult questions should not invite personal abuse. Naik also referred to Rahul Gandhi as "Pappu." Yet those who avoid facing independent journalists and refrain from holding open press conferences for years are hardly in a position to question another leader's courage or credibility. Political disagreements are inevitable, but they must be expressed with dignity and respect. Goa deserves issue-based politics, not insults and abusive slogans.
