Chandor’s roads cannot remain unsafe

It is heartbreaking that a 19-year-old lost his life when the motorcycle he was riding collided with the rear wheel of a truck on a curve in Chandor. Despite clear restrictions, heavy trucks and commercial vehicles continue to ply through Chandor’s village roads, putting residents’ lives at constant risk. The District Magistrate and local police have explicitly prohibited the movement of heavy vehicles through Chandor to protect its heritage structures and ensure the safety of residents. Yet, these trucks continue to enter the village via Guddi unchecked, often speeding recklessly along narrow roads.

The closure of the railway crossing at Nessai has forced heavy vehicles to take a detour via the Chandor flyover and Guddi road to reach the Nessai industrial estate. Outdated and confusing PWD signboards further compound the problem, misleading drivers despite repeated complaints. The police must strictly enforce traffic regulations and prevent heavy vehicles from using prohibited routes. The safety of Chandor’s residents and the preservation of its heritage demand urgent and decisive action.
