The shocking incidents of electrocution of a government electricity staff and a contract worker employed for Power department works raise the issue of death due to negligence. A family has lost a breadwinner. What will the department do now? It will initiate an inquiry and pay a meagre compensation to the family. The GHRC should take cognizance of this accident and reward the deceased family members a befitting compensation. What is the role of JERC now? Will it initiate urgent safety measures to safeguard their own staff from dying due to negligence? The smart meters can wait for now but we need smart tripping devices to ensure no one suffers an electric shock from the service provider. Its high time the department takes accountability. Let's not ignore precious lives being lost in such careless and negligent ways. Will justice be done? Has a PIL to be filed in High Court for life time compensation?
