Protect the Madani road

In Bhati Wado, Parra village, there is a need to construct a new road parallel to the existing scenic road. This would improve the flow of vehicles in the Parra “Madani” area while helping to preserve the roots of the coconut trees, reduce visual pollution and make movement easier for both residents and visitors. The road is also a popular filming location and tourist attraction.

There is a clear need to separate vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Once the parallel road is built, the original Madani road could be converted into a heritage zone reserved for pedestrians or a lane with only limited non-motorised traffic. This would allow tourists to enjoy the scenic surroundings without being disturbed by heavy traffic, while also improving traffic management.
Constructing a parallel road near the famous Madani road in Parra, Goa, will require approvals from several government departments and agencies. As the area is an important cultural and tourist site, any development must carefully balance heritage conservation with the need for better transport infrastructure.
A phased plan should be prepared to study the feasibility of a parallel bypass road, followed by its design and construction if found suitable. There is no harm in exploring the idea. If it proves feasible, the proposal should be taken forward through proper planning. Parra’s Madani road gained international recognition after it was featured in Shah Rukh Khan-Alia Bhatt’s film ‘Dear Zindagi’.
