Anjuna Zilla Panchayat member and senior BJP functionary Narayan Ladu Mandrekar passed away late on Tuesday evening after reportedly suffering a heart attack, sending shock waves through the political fraternity in North Goa and particularly the Siolim constituency.
According to sources, Mandrekar had attended an aarti programme in Anjuna when he suddenly collapsed. He was reportedly rushed for medical assistance but could not be revived. The exact cause of death is expected to be confirmed by medical authorities.
Mandrekar was a well-known BJP karyakarta and an active grassroots leader who enjoyed a strong support base in the Siolim constituency.
Known for his approachable nature and close connect with local residents, he had been actively involved in public and developmental issues in the region.
He was elected as the Zilla Panchayat member from the Anjuna constituency after a closely fought election in which he defeated Congress candidate Yogesh Govekar, popularly known as "Mogambo."
Leaders from across the political spectrum expressed grief over his untimely demise, with many remembering him as a dedicated public representative and committed party worker.
