Neo-BJP MLA planning to split Cong further for his gains?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | DECEMBER 04, 2022, 12:58 AM IST

Has the saffron brigade drawn up any plan to further break the Congress party, which is now reduced to just three MLAs in the Goa Legislative Assembly, post-defection by the eight MLAs? Well, speculations have been rife in political circles that a neo-BJP MLA may make such a move with an eye on the CM’s Kodel. Reports did the rounds that the ruling MLA may try to prove a point or two to win favour with the party leadership if he manages to further split the Congress MLAs and strengthen his case for the prized post. Any takers?

Storm over river Sal pollution heading towards Margao

The storm kicked up over the river Sal contamination by raw sewage seemed to head towards the direction of Margao represented by Diggu. A month after Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas raised the stink over raw sewage discharged into the river Sal, officials seem bracing up to tighten the noose around the erring establishments in the city. If the gist of the high-level meeting chaired by PWD Minister Nileshbab Cabral and Chief Secretary is any indication, the day is not too far when the officials may descend on the ground to disconnect the water supply to the establishments. Wait and watch.

When minister visited Salcete for feedback on BJP prospects

When BJP leader and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar descended in Saxttidom earlier this week, his mission was to interact with party Ministers, MLAs and leaders to seek feedback on the party’s prospects in South Goa in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Amongst the MLAs, who reportedly called on the Union Minister was the government’s supporting partner, Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco. What has transpired between the Rajeev-Reginaldo duo remains unknown, but questions are being raised how the Curtorim Independent MLA will go about in his fiefdom in the 2024 polls. Any questions?

BJP working to a plan to regain South Goa LS seat

The saffron brigade seemed working on a plan to regain the South Goa seat in the coming polls. Party leader Rajeev Chandrashekar has become the second Union Minister after Narayan Rane to descend in South Goa to mobilise the saffron brigade and create a feel-good factor ahead of the 2024 battle. On the ground, the BJP is enjoying the numerical advantage with the party’s tally of MLAs from South Goa has gone up to 12, post-defection, besides enjoying the support of three alliance partners. The Congress, on the other hand, is now left with just two MLAs in the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress back in action in Nuvem with Everson Vales

Nuvem constituency, which has seen back-to-back defections by the Congress MLAs, seemed to have found favour in the Congress scheme of things. Nuvem-based party leader Eversonbab Vales has found a place in the recently reconstituted party panels. A glance at the committees shows that Eversonbab’s name figures in the list of newly-appointed general secretaries. And, his name finds a mention in the list of members of the Congress Disciplinary Action Committee. Any questions?
