Fatorda Veterans prevailed over Dovondem Veterans 5-4 via the tiebreaker to win the 1st Our Lady of Fatima Sports Club Veterans Cup 2022 organised by Our Lady of Fatima Sports Club at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim.
Bibiano Fernandes of Donvodem Veterans and Uday Naik of Fatorda Veterans were the stars of the final. In the first half, Bibiano took the lead for Dovondem Veterans in the 10th minute. Uday Naik equalised for Fatorda Veterans in the 24th minute. The half time score was 1-1. In the second half, there was no addition to the scoreline to take the match to a tiebreaker.
In the tiebreaker, Shaikh Niaz, Vishant Pednekar, Vincent Barbosa and Ramesh Pallet scored for Fatorda Veterans while Govind Parikar, Caitano Pinho, and Bibiano Fernandes scored for Dovondem Veterans.
Individual prizes: 1st scorer - Bibiano Fernandes (Dovondem), Best goalkeeper - Francisco Dias (Fatorda), Best defender - Stanley Colaco (Dovondem), Best midfielder - Vishant Pednekar (Fatorda), Man of the match - Shaikh Niaz (Fatorda Veterans).
Fr Soccoro Rebelo, assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Grace Church, Bicholim, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guests of honour Julio Fernandes, ZP member and Cruz Silva, MLA of Velim Constituency, and special invitees Fr Alex D'Souza, Fr Christopher Fernandes, Fr Joseph Gama, and Cyril Leitao, president of CRC Chinchinim.
